ARTLURKER, a Miami based online publication for the contemporary arts, is proud to host the Miami Writer’s Prize, an annual prize aimed at encouraging residents of Miami to write critically about art.
Since its inception in 2010, the Miami Writer’s Prize has pursued the edification of the Miami’s Arts Community by encouraging exciting new writers and fostering accountability for contemporary art discourse through reinforcement of the blogging format.
The Miami Writer’s Prize is funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and ARTLURKER reader donations, and sponsored by Locust Projects.

How the prize works:
The Miami Writer’s Prize is open to any resident of Miami-Dade County that is not already on ARTLURKER’s roster and/or who has not had more than three art related texts published in print.
Eligible entrants submit one original, previously unpublished review of a recent art-related event to writersprize (at) artlurker (dot) com by the advertised deadline.
Shortly after the deadline, at a pre-disclosed date, one entrant is announced on ARTLURKER.com as the winner of the Miami Writer’s Prize. In addition to having their winning entry published, this individual receives an honorary stipend of $800 dollars in return for an eight post writing placement as a Guest Blogger on ARTLURKER.com. Payment is arranged as needed, but never in advance.
Submissions are judged by a panel of distinguished arts professionals. Previous judges include Noah Becker (WHITEHOT MAGAZINE), Hunter Braithwaite (THEREISNOTHERE), Paddy Johnson (ARTFAGCITY), Hrag Vartanian (HYPERALLERGIC), Rene Morales (MAM), Ruba Katrib (SCULPTURE CENTER), P. Scott Cunningham (O MIAMI), Gean Moreno ([NAME]), Annie Hollingsworth, and the founding members of the end/SPRING BREAK. Previous winners include: Melissa Diaz, 2011, Annie Hollingsworth, 2010, and Rob Goyanes, 2012.
