Hear ye hear ye… Locust Projects, Miami’s premier non profit art space famous for providing contemporary visual artists the opportunity to experiment with new ideas and methods to produce site specific installations without the limitations imposed by conventional exhibition spaces or economic mores is pleased to announce the second year of Out of the Box, an initiative in line with Locust’s mandate of seeking to facilitate creativity without parameters that increases exposure to and of contemporary art by sponsoring projects in public locations throughout Miami.

The program launched with the Billboard Project in December 2010, for which internationally renowned artist Liam Gillick was commissioned to produce artwork for billboards, bus shelters and bus backs surrounding Miami’s Design District and Miami Beach.

Since three days now, Locust Projects is accepting proposals from South Floridian artists for this year’s Billboard Project, a project which aims to challenge the billboard as a tool for commercial advertising while giving artists an opportunity to reconsider their own working methods. The Billboard Project will launch in November 2011, with a reception for the artist during the week of Art Basel Miami Beach.
