The Sunday Video: 9/11 Anniversary Osama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri hiking in Afghanistan

As the eighth anniversary of the September eleventh atrocities approaches and America simultaneously mourns its dead and contemplates both the effectiveness and necessity of its military involvement in Afghanistan (not to mention a growing disillusionment in Barak Obama) we provide [a link to] the complete footage of a 2003 video depicting Osama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri hiking in the mountains of Afghanistan that is currently being distributed by the jihadist al- Ekhlass message board.

The video shows bin Laden and Zawahiri, both dressed in traditional clothing of the Pashtu tribe, walking through a lush, green, mountainside. According to al-Jazeera who received the video in 2003 on the second anniversary of 9/11, its issuance came accompanied by an audio message from Osama bin Laden and Zawahiri. Despite this the video offers a rare and perhaps valuable moment of reflection in an otherwise action dominated context.

Aside from two one-minute clips of this footage broadcast by al-Jazeerah on September 10, 2003, this is the first time that the video has been uploaded on jihadi forums, and appears to also be the first time that the video can be seen in its entirety.
