Koons may not be worth going to see but (for me at least) he s worth writing (reading) about-that s because what he does-as a superstar artist is really so much more seductive and interesting than say, Damien Hirst(among others)
I say that because,(with the exception of his diamond scull) Hirst's work looks kind of gigantic and sensational but not much more, wheras Koons has had this on-going dialogue about throw-away objects, the connection between elitist art collecting and cheap consumerist aesthetic values, and because this exposes a really ironic conection between the two supposedly divided realms.
In an age when super-consumers are in charge of the artworld and snapping up very expensive objects to validate their elite standing,I find it funny that they fight to own a gigantic stainless steel replica (perfectly fabricated of course) of a gas station giveaway.
And I m glad he s so successful because that s what validates this work and confirms his position

I think that there is more to be said about the act and ART of requesting, amassing, transporting, installing, insuring and exhibiting a show of this magnitude.
The real challenge was dealing with Mr. Koons and his retinue.
The self important collectors and the sychophantic gallery owners.
